Hamburg Knows The Words!

Of course it does. Hamburg wouldn't let us down. Hamburg never does. It's the one of the best places in the world.

A concert in Hamburg should never be missed. Can't make it to every show of a tour? No problem. But make sure you can see one in Hamburg. Because it's the best place... but I've said that already.

Originally there was a two-day-break after the Hamburg show, before the 2nd show in Bremen was added, and we had decided to spend these two days in Travemünde, a district of the city of Lübeck and our favorite seaside resort in ths country. It's less than an hour away from Hamburg, so we thought it was a good opportunity to get some downtime there.

Then came the announcement of Bremen 2, Stefie won our entry on the guest list for it, but we didn't change plans, although it meant driving 1.5 hrs from Travemünde to Bremen and back on show day. Fine then.

But the morning after the show in Bremen we talked about how stupid that actually was. Why not cancelling the hotel in Hamburg and going straight to Travemünde and then driving from there to the show in Hamburg. It's closer than Bremen. Will spare you all the boring details but we ended up cancelling the Hamburg hotel, changing the reservation of the Travemünde hotel, and reserving the nice hotel in Bremen for a 2nd time for the night of show #2. Sounds complicated? Yeah... but it all worked out perfectly fine.

Who knew that we would have to change plans once again...

But now let's go back to the morning after the show in Bremen. We still had to check out that cake at Cafè Erlesenes. And why not for breakfast. After packing up, reserving a room for April 1st and checking out, we went over to try their famous Frankfurter Kranz. And guess who was having their breakfast there too? Right. Lee, Sarah, Rich and Mona! What a nice surprise :-).

But now, Ladies & Gentlemen, here's The Cake. And believe me: it tastes every bit as yummy as it looks!!

After cake and two cups of coffee it was time to leave for Travemünde, where we arrived shortly before 2pm.

Due to the change of the original reservation we got an upgrade at our hotel Lieblingsplatz Strandperle from a regular room to their apartment suite! Not too bad!! Looking out of the window we had this view:

But before we got there, we had once again to deal with the stupid luggage. This time the room was on the highest floor... the attic floor, so to say. And again no elevator.

First this
 ... then this

But again there was a friendly helper who did the job for us. Whew!

Down at the bar we got our welcome drink and sat down on their outside patio with ocean view. Life was good!

After having a late lunch it was time to drive to Hamburg. What we hadn't thought about, was that there's usually always high traffic around Hamburg and of course we got stuck in a traffic jam. Somehow we still managed to make it on time though and arrived at the Prinzenbar at 15 minutes prior to door opening time. A few minutes later Ursula arrived, whom we had met for the first time at the show in Munich. She had brought a friend who wasn't yet familiar with Lee's (or PA's) music.

When the doors opened, we went straight up to one of their balconies. We had been here last November, right in front of the stage, and wanted to take photos from a different angle for once. Not many clubs offer that opportunity.

A few words about the Prinzenbar: it's a small but very beautiful location, dimly lit with ornate moulding which gives it an almost Baroque atmosphere, a gorgeous chandelier and a huge mirror behind the bar that allows a great view over all the people.

We were glad to get a chance to come back here again. Also, thank God, none of the staff members was bitching about our camera equipement... unlike the last time.

Lee came out first, dressed up for the night in his black suite, white dress shirt and black tie again, setting the mood for the evening with Joanna. Everyone was into it from the start, some were even actually dancing to most of the songs (Lady in the middle of the crowd with the red shirt looked like she had forgotten the world around her).

And the great people from Hamburg didn't just dance along but also performed perfect background harmonies (after Lee's instructions) for Falling In Love For The Last Time AND knew all the needed words during the Fresh Prince of Bel Air part of the cover mashup. For everyone who wants to join in at one of the next shows, you need to remember the "you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air" line ;-)

Rubbing shoulders with the crowd was once again a highlight... also nice to watch from the balcony. And this time it could be done again also for the last song he performed with Paper Aeroplanes again.

But no matter how wonderful the evening... show #9 had to come to an end. :-(

Afterwards we spoke to Ursula and her friend Bärbel and were happy to hear that Lee had oviously made another new fan with his performance. Welcome to the club, Bärbel ;-)

But then the bad news folllowed when Mona said that due to Lee's and Rich's illness show number 2 in Bremen might have to be cancelled. Decision would be made the next day after a visit to the doc.

We left the club with worried feelings. While it was no secret that he had a cold, it never was obvious during the performances, that things were obviously so serious. It would suck if he show had to be cancelled, but of course, Lee's health was more important!

Fingers were crossed!

Exception of the rule: photos taken with flash

I want to leave you with some Ladie's room wisdom:

Yes they do !

  1. OMG I need that cake right now! What was the apartment suite like? Those stairs look like they were a bitch! I love stairs but not dragging luggage up and down. No elevator? How do people with disabilities get up and down? What's Lee got? The flu? Get well soon!

  2. Apartment was great!!!! Except for those stairs. Disabled definitely can definitey not stay up there.

Lee had the flu. Caught from Rich (PA) who caught his from his kid when still at home. And then Mona caught it as well. They were all sick as a dog, except for Sarah (PA).
